The Fast and the Furious actor and R & B singer Tyrese Gibson announced that his mother passed away on Valentine’s Day after a weeks-long battle with COVID-19 and pneumonia.
“On behalf of my family and everyone who ever spent any time praying for my mother, this is the saddest moment of my life,” Gibson wrote on Instagram.
In addition to his post, Gibson shared an emotional video of him holding his mother’s hand in the final moments of her life.
“My sweet Valentine just passed away. … May the Lord Jesus Christ and his angels open the doors of heavens and embrace her,” he added.
Last week, Gibson asked his millions of followers for prayer after his mother, Priscilla Murray, was hospitalized with COVID-19 and pneumonia.
“My mother is in a coma, in ICU, with pneumonia, and she caught COVID. They got her so sedated she can’t breathe or even eat on her own. I need prayers, the most sincere prayers, from you prayer warriors,” he said on Feb. 5.
During one hospital visit, Gibson, 43, shared that the prayers were working, noting that his mother’s condition seemed to be improving.
“As I sit here, I’m thanking God for every breath … I am so grateful. She’s right here,” he said in an Instagram video.
On Monday, however, Gibson shared the news of his mother’s passing, noting that he and his family were shocked and heartbroken.
“May the Lord Jesus Christ honor your walk with him and embrace you into the heavens,” Gibson wrote to his mother.
“From here on, I ask that you HOLD MY HAND MOTHER and never let my hand go … Like you held my hand as a child and a teen never let my hand go mother,” Gibson concluded.
According to The Christian Post, Gibson reportedly had a strained relationship with his mother. Nevertheless, it was clear that he loved her as he stood by her side at the end of her life.
