Here is a short story about the power of affirmations.

My friend, Anne, loves to travel abroad, but she has always experienced fear and anxiety when the airplane took off.

She felt okay, while boarding the airplane and while flying. However, the moment the airplane started moving on the runway, and especially when it left the ground, fear and anxiety suddenly overwhelmed her.

This usually lasted for just a few moments, until the airplane was in midair, but these were scary moments for her.

One day, on one of her journeys, something extraordinary happened to her.

She boarded the plane and sat down in her seat, feeling all right.

After all the passengers were aboard, the plane started moving slowly toward the runway, preparing to take off. At that exact moment, Anne suddenly fell into a deep sleep that lasted for about half an hour.

The sleep took her by surprise, since she was not tired and did not intend to sleep during the flight.

Anne woke up half an hour later, when the plane was already in midair. She was surprised that she fell asleep, but was happy that she did not have to experience once again her fear of the takeoff.

Affirmations Can Help You Cope with Problems

What has actually happened, and why did she fall asleep?

The explanation is very simple. A few days before the flight, Anne started to experience anxiety about the flight, but she decided that she no longer wanted to experience this discomfort.

She was familiar with the power of affirmations and decided to use them to help her.

A few days before the flight, she began repeating a certain affirmation in the morning, when she woke up, and at night, before falling asleep. She also repeated it at various times during the day.

She repeated the following affirmation:

“I am enjoying my flight, feeling safe, calm and happy, from the moment of boarding, until arriving at my destination.”

Anne had no idea how she was going to relieve her anxiety when the plane would takeoff, but she did not care. All she wanted was to have a pleasant and anxiety-free flight.

By repeating the above words, Anne actually asked her subconscious mind to free her from the fear she experienced during the takeoff. Her subconscious mind came up with a brilliant solution, to make her fall asleep, so as not to experience the fear and the anxiety.

As you see, the mind can come up with interesting solutions when you need them and ask for them.

You too, have most probably had such experiences in your life.

For example, sometimes, you are anxious to find a solution to a problem and think hard about it, but find no suitable solution. Then, a little later, a solution suddenly appears, as if out of nowhere.

Affirmations work in a similar way. You feed your mind with an affirmation, over and again, and then your subconscious mind works to find ways to make the affirmation come true.
